Why did you decide to take part in the workshops?
After moving to the UK from Poland four years ago and working in the North East, I decided to set up my own company. I never had a formal business education so I had very little knowledge of basic finance. Like many, I had a very simplistic view of making money, and knew my approach would never create a large, profitable company.


What did you aim to get out of the sessions?
I wanted to attain an all-round knowledge of finance which would help me make a profit and hopefully grow the business.


What did you enjoy most about attending?
I loved learning about profit and loss and how to price goods and services effectively – that was a real ‘eureka’ moment for me.


How have you used what you learnt within your business?
Having the knowledge to price my services at a reasonable level meant, for the first time, I understood how to make my business profitable and take it from a one-man-band to a larger organisation.


What benefits have the sessions brought to your business?
The course has given me the confidence to think big. As well as my graphic design company, I have now set up an organisation called Polish Business Boost, which will offer a network of help and support to other Polish businesses across the UK. Thanks to the Understanding Finance course, my approach to the company is completely different and I am already thinking about how to make it scalable, as well as profitable.


Would you recommend the sessions to other businesses?
Absolutely – the course has been invaluable to both me and my business and I would never have had the confidence to even consider expansion beforehand.
